A high school nerd, with the help of some misfits, goes on a daring mission to rescue the girl he loves from a mental hospital. Yeah, and it's a musical. From the award-winning team of film, TV and music video director Jenn Page and writer/composer Chris Edgar comes a rock opera about a misfit high school kid's attempt to break the girl he loves out of a psychiatric hospital. Darker and edgier than your usual high school TV fare (think Glee meets Freaks and Geeks), The Breakout's music is in the vein of rock-based theatre shows like Next to Normal and Spring Awakening. Though The Breakout deals with serious themes like teenage self-harm, drug use and mental illness, it treats them with a healthy dose of humor.
